Abstract
Lipomas are the most common benign soft-tissue tumors originating in the adipose tissue. Cases in the oral cavity are unusual, and bilateral multiple lipomas or lipomatosis of the tongue are very rare. We report a case of a 56-year-old man presenting with multiple symmetric yellowish nodules on both lateral borders of the tongue. The patient reported no pain or discomfort on the tongue. He had a history of chronic alcoholism, pellagra, hypertension, diabetes, and anemia. Histologic examination of the lesion showed nonencapsulated lobules of mature adipose tissue between muscle fascicles. He declined surgical resection of the lesions. Therefore, lipomas were treated with four intralesional injections of triamcinolone. No significant change in the size of the lipomas was seen however. Herein, we report a rare case of symmetric lipomatosis of the tongue in patient with pellagra.
